Ellen Powell is best known as a jazz bassist who has been playing around Vermont and New England since the early 1980s.
She added on photography, something she’s always wanted to do, in the last several years.
Ellen spent lots of her childhood in the woods below her house, where the world made sense. Her pictures are mostly of Nature and natural things. Her mother was an avid naturalist, conservationist, and birder, and nurtured Ellen’s great love of and respect for Nature. Taking pictures of our natural surroundings gives her copious amounts of joy.
Ellen’s love of music and photography compliment one another. She says, “It feels natural to go back and
forth between the two. As an artist I can lose myself in the world of music and photography as well. How fortunate I am!”
You can see more examples of her work here, and here. Her photographs are also being published for the first time in Vermont Life this summer.
